Artistically Designed Three-Storey Modular Office Building at MuseumsQuartier

Austrian artist Nick Oberthaler was commissioned by MuseumsQuartier Vienna to artistically reinterpret the construction offices of the neighbouring Signa building site. His large-scale artworks transform the three-storey modular office system into a striking visual landmark, blending functionality with artistic expression.

The building is accessed via a custom-engineered, fully galvanised steel staircase and platform structure. This robust steel structure ensures safe and comfortable access to all upper office levels. The staircase is designed for stability and comfort, even under high daily foot traffic.

A double-module office configuration is directly connected to the vertical access structure. These units were converted into individual offices with separate entrances to accommodate a wide range of user requirements.
In total, the modular system comprises 26 offices distributed across three floors. Generous circulation areas and effective ventilation create a comfortable and productive working environment.

Beyond circulation, the staircase and platform system plays a central role in the spatial organization of the building. During the warmer months, the extended platforms function as informal outdoor spaces for relaxation and fresh air. These elevated areas are frequently used for short breaks and informal meetings in an open-air setting.

By integrating contemporary art with modular architecture, the project creates an inspiring workplace that goes well beyond a conventional office solution. Nick Oberthaler’s artistic intervention enhances the entire site and makes the modular office building a distinctive feature within MuseumsQuartier Vienna.
